Welcome to Queen's House
Queen’s House is a registered Care Home, operating on a "Not for Profit" basis, providing both residential
and nursing accommodation. It is delightfully situated in its own grounds approximately half a mile from the centre of Kelso.
The original Queen’s House was opened in 1954 as a residential home for 32 people under the auspices of the British Red Cross Society (Scottish Branch) and run by a voluntary committee. During the 1990’s, plans were produced for a replacement home designed to meet the highest quality care standards. These plans came to fruition when the new purpose built Queen’s House was opened in 2001 by HRH The Princess Royal.
The new home was designed and constructed to accommodate and provide all the features required in a modern nursing home. There are thirty two single bedrooms all on the ground floor (each 15.75 sqm) with en-suite facilities (each 4.5 Sqm). Thirteen rooms have patio doors leading to a courtyard area, with the remaining rooms having low level windows to allow easy views.
There is a treatment room, visiting services room and a quiet sitting room. A family room is also available, providing overnight accommodation where necessary.
Residents and their families have full access to our gardens, using a wheelchair friendly pathway that goes round the home. The gardens also have a number of patio and seating areas available to all.
All rooms are linked to a nurse call system and 24-hour care is provided by our professional nursing and care staff in a relaxed homely environment. We welcome and encourage residents to bring small items of their own furniture and possessions to increase this feeling of homeliness.
Our excellent team of Executive Care Director, Nurses, Carers, Cooks, Domestics, Maintenance and office staff run the home to ensure the quality of individual care is coordinated with other professionals, including effective and efficient Doctors, Podiatrists, Opticians, etc.
The home’s Management Team work under the guidance of the Queen’s House Board of Trustees, a voluntary group who make regular visits to the home and see the home's role as being very much part of the local community. Additional support is provided by the ‘Friends of Queen’s House’, a further voluntary group who are engaged in activities such as fund raising, visiting residents, accompanying residents on trips away from the home, etc.
